Race compliance

Confidence for race officials

SEANIAC eCompass gives race officials two direct checks for race-legal mode: the display shows a compass icon whenever eCompass mode is active, and Bluetooth is fully disabled so the device does not appear in any BLE scan.

How it works

One device, two clear modes

Training mode records sessions for analysis, connects to the app over Bluetooth, offers a configurable display, and supports over-the-air firmware updates. In eCompass mode the device uses magnetic input only, stores no data, and has no function beyond current heading.

Questions officials ask

Key points race committees and class stakeholders may want to review before approving use at events.

What is the race mode for?

eCompass mode is the race-legal operating state. In eCompass mode the device uses magnetic input only, stores no data, and has no function beyond current heading.

Why does this matter for events?

Officials can verify eCompass mode in two ways: check the display for the compass icon, which is shown on the water and for 45 minutes after returning ashore, or scan for Bluetooth. A device in eCompass mode has Bluetooth fully disabled and will not appear in any BLE scan. If it shows up, it is not in race-legal mode.

Which classes is it legal in?

The product is designed for compliance with class rules in ILCA, Optimist, 49er, 49erFX, and 29er.

Is the device robust enough for dinghy use?

Yes. The eCompass is IPX8 submersible, solar powered, and built around a battery-free supercapacitor design for demanding on-water conditions.

What technology is inside?

The unit uses a 25 kHz 3D magnetic sensor and a super-reflective LCD for clear outdoor readability.
